Hi Christian,

I hope you're doing well! I’m reaching out for my writing composition class to see if you’d be willing to do a brief email interview as part of an assignment.

We have an assignment about discourse communities (groups of people with a shared purpose who use communication to achieve common goals), and I'm looking to get some insight into how the cognitive science discourse community operates, especially in its relation to its interdisciplinary nature.

Thank you so much for your help if you're up to it, no worries if not!

With that, if you'd be kind enough to help me out with the interview, these are the questions I was looking for responses to:
  1. What research discipline(s) do you consider yourself a part of?
  2. How are you motivated to do work?
  3. Following on the last question, what community pressures push you to do work? Do you have a PI telling you what to work on? A research culture that emphasizes certain things over others?
  4. What do you consider the threshold for “community membership”? I know this is a bit vague, but what qualities do you think separate the perceived membership differences between an engineering undergrad asking you about your work versus a neuroscience Ph.D. asking you about your work at a conference?

Best,
Diego
