- 2.7 mil grandparents responsible for basic needs of grandkids
- 1/3 households headed by a gradmother/father or both (39.8 mil)
- Of these, 4.5 mil contain one or more grandchildren
- Of these, 1/3 (1.5 mil) don’t contain bio parent of grandkid
- “Skipped generation households”
Difficulties:
- Grandparents may not be emotionally, financially, or physically prepared for full time case of grandparents
- Also, generational gap may be an issue
